Newsletter week beginning 31/08/15

Newsletter 1
3rd September 2015

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to another packed term at Nevill Road Junior School. I hope that you all had an enjoyable summer and managed to find some sunshine somewhere!!

New staff
We welcome Miss Dean, Miss Harris and Miss Paterson to our staff this year and hope that your children enjoy being in their classes, whilst making good progress with their learning.
Should you have any concerns about your child, in any class, please contact their class teacher initially.
If you feel that you need to escalate any issue after that then please contact the relevant phase leader – Mr Kinnear for Years 3 & 4; Mrs Lamb for Years 5 & 6.

Building work and playground
You will have seen that we have now completed the replacement of the school roof and that the rear road from the North Park Road entrance is nearly finished. Unfortunately due to the heavy lifting gear that has had to be used for the roof, part of the large playground has become damaged. I am hopeful that this will be repaired quickly but until such time we have fenced off the effected part and have asked the children to avoid the area.

Years 5 and 6 visits to High School
At this time of year we usually host an evening for children and parents in Years 5 and 6 with the staff from Bramhall High School. This year, however, we have arranged for children to be able to visit the school with parents during the day. A letter with full details will come out shortly but I wanted to give you advance notice that the days are Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th September. There will also be a presentation at Bramhall High School on 17th September at 6:30pm.

Year 6 walking home and mobile phones
As children enter Year 6 we realise that parents start to allow them to walk home unaccompanied, in preparation for moving on to secondary school. If your child has permission to walk home unaccompanied at the end of the day, please complete the details below and return it as soon as possible to the class teacher.
In addition we understand that if your child is walking home you will want them to have their phone with them. If these children do bring a phone in, it must be switched off and handed in to Mr Elias at the start of the day. The phones will then be stored securely during the day and returned at home time.
Only children who have permission to walk unaccompanied should have a mobile phone in school.

My child _____________________________ is in Year 6E / 6S / 6W (please indicate your child’s class)

I give permission for them to walk home unaccompanied at the end of the school day.
They will/will not be bringing a mobile phone to school with them.

Code of Conduct
Yesterday we launched our new code of conduct with the children. This replaces the previous “Good Choices and Bad Choices” and a copy is going out tonight with this newsletter.
All staff will refer to the Code of Conduct when managing behaviour and it links in to the updated behaviour policy. Our aim is to develop a happy and safe environment, where everyone feels valued and able to contribute.
We would welcome any comments on it as we are constantly aiming to improve and to work in partnership with parents.

Hot Dinners
As a reminder, hot dinners are now £2.10 per meal (10.50 per week). New order forms were issued at the end of last year.

Swimming for Year 4 children will start on Wednesday 9th September.

The Lost Property box is overflowing at the moment! If you think that any of the items may belong to your child, please come in and check as soon as possible.

I look forward to working with you and your children over the course of this year and will keep you fully informed via my newsletters and the website.

Best wishes,

Miss Sheila Harrison
