Dear Parents/Carers,

Please find below advance notice of dates for your diary. These will be added to as the term progresses and you can find details here or on the website at www.nevillroadjunior.co.uk.

Dates for your diary:
March:
Friday 25th – school closed – Good Friday
Monday 28th – school closed – Easter Monday
Tuesday 29th – Year 6 trip to Stockport Air-raid Shelters
Tuesday 29th – Parents’ evening 4-6pm

School closes for the holidays at 3:20pm on Friday 1st April and reopens on Monday 18th April.

School will be used as a polling station for the EU Referendum on Thursday 23rd June. We will therefore be closed on that day.

Nevill Road App
This will be the last paper copy of the newsletter. If you do not have a smart phone you are able to request for a paper copy to still be sent home via your child by emailing the School Office on
anna.dodd@nevillroad-jun.stockport.sch.uk. Alternatively the newsletter is also available on the website.
You can download the app by searching for ‘Nevill Road Schools’ and download the app that displays our school logo. When downloading it is important that you select ‘Yes’ for all options in particular push notifications.

Dealing with Food Issues
Do you have problems with your child over eating, having aversions to certain foods or showing sensory issues towards food? If so feel free to come along to “The Grove Bar”, 399-401 London Road, Hazel Grove, SK7 6AA on Thursday 5th May between 11am and 1pm. Cheryl from the ASD team will be there to chat to families about how to manage these issues. All welcome no matter what diagnosis. Children are welcome too.

Attendance and office times
Please remember that school starts at 8:50am with registers closing at 9am. Any child who arrives after 9am will have that session marked as an “unauthorised absence” and this WILL impact on their overall attendance figure for the term. The office staff work from 8:30am until 4pm (3:30pm on a Friday) and there is an answerphone at all other times so that you can leave a message regarding any absences.

In addition, please note that children should not be arriving in the playground before 8:40am. Teachers are busy with their preparations for the school day up until that point and therefore not available should there be an accident. Should a child fall and be in need of First Aid they should knock on the doors from the playground or go round to the office entrance.

Vomiting and diarrhoea
Please remember that if your child has a bout of sickness which includes vomiting and diarrhoea, they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last instance. This is from the guidelines that schools must work to, issued by the Health Protection Agency.

There were no certificates at the start of this week due to school being closed for Easter Monday. However congratulations to class Y4Hu who had 98.3% attendance last week.

Leave of Absence
Please remember that any requests for leave of absence should be made at least 2 weeks in advance of the start date. Leave of absence will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Learning and Pastoral Care Manager
We have a new member of staff in school, Steve Black, who has joined us as our Learning and Pastoral care Manager. Mr Black will be taking responsibility for all our support staff and will also be working with individual / small groups of children who may require additional support with confidence or emotions. He will be setting up nurture groups and will also be another fully trained Child Protection Officer. Mr Black has been trained to develop parenting and counselling courses and will work closely with Mrs Lamont on the SEND front. I am sure that he will be an invaluable member of the staff and will be another person to build links with parents and carers.

Change of lunch provider
Mrs Marshall and I have been looking at alternatives for the provision of our school lunches. We felt that we would like to be able to offer parents the option of paying online and of being able to order specific food choices. We have therefore decided to give notice to our current providers and change to Dolce from September. A growing number of schools are using this family run business and they provide everything that we want in one package. From September you will be able to make payments online and to pre-order meals from home with your children. The children will be guaranteed to get the choice that they make, providing the meals have been ordered in advance of 9:30am. Further details will come out nearer the end of the summer term. We hope that this will ease many of the issues that have been reported to us previously.

Parents’ evening for Y5C
Mr Cardwell is still off sick so his parent appointments will be rearranged for after the Easter holidays.
A letter with further details will come out once we have sorted out dates.

Glaramara – Year 6
Deadline for return of Parental Approval Proforma is Friday, 1st April. Deadline for final payment is Friday, 27th May 2016.

Friends of Nevill Road – dates of events
April 1st – celebration discos – details to follow
April 21st – meeting at the Governors pub 8pm

Best wishes,

Miss Sheila Harrison
