Welcome back to a new term and a New Year. I hope that you had an enjoyable and peaceful festive period.
This term sees the start of a busy year as we begin to prepare for the changes to the National Curriculum. Those of you who have had older children already pass through the school may notice a difference in some of the topics that we are studying this term and next. We are starting to redevelop our curriculum, involve the children in leading their own learning and linking subjects together in a more cross-curricular way. We hope that this will engage the children and help them to be able to transfer key skills from one subject area to another. Class teachers will be sending out curriculum newsletters next Monday, 13th January, which will contain more detail about exactly what the children will be working on this term.
Last week we had our wireless network installed and just before half term we will be having other aspects of our IT hardware and software upgraded. Once this is completed we will be able to provide the majority of the information that we need to share with you on our website. I would ask you to bear with us (and keep checking bags for letters and forms!!) until this is completed. In addition I am hoping to be able to start to provide mobile technology in some of the classrooms and am grateful to the Friends’ of Nevill Road for the support that they provide to help us to fund the cost of such equipment.
Before Christmas we were able to spend £2000 on new books for the library, again thanks to Friends’ funding, so a huge thank you goes to everyone who supports the events that the Friends’ put on. I know that they are always looking for more volunteers so feel free to attend the meetings – I always publicise them in the school newsletter and on the website.
Our parents’ evenings this term will be on Monday 17th February, 4-6pm, and Thursday 20th February, 4-7pm. Appointment slips will be sent out nearer the time but I wanted to give you advance notification of the dates. This term our Year 5s will be putting on a production at the end of term, with performances likely to be on Thursday 3rd April in the afternoon and the evening. One final advance date I have is Wednesday
26th March for an e-safety event at Bramhall High School from 6:30-8pm. We held an event here last term and I know that those who attended found it invaluable. The event at the High School will be open to all parents of all the feeder Primary Schools and I will provide more details nearer the time.
It was pleasing to see many children joining our school band last term and we are constantly looking at what additional activities and clubs we are able to offer. The School Council started up again last term and we are just waiting for the playground equipment that they have chosen to arrive. I am also delighted that we have been able to offer a “Performance Workshop” club this term, thanks to one of our parents. Please check the school website for details of all the clubs on offer to the children.
I would like to thank you for your continued support as we constantly strive to improve the educational experiences of your children.
Miss Sheila Harrison
