Nevill Road Junior School
Parent Newsletter 1 – Autumn Term 2017
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to a new and exciting year at Nevill Road Junior School. I hope you have all found some time to relax. I would also like to thank you for making me feel so welcome in my new role as Headteacher.
Our new Year 3s have settled in beautifully and have impressed all of the teachers with their enthusiasm and fantastic attitudes towards learning. We are also delighted to welcome Miss Kershaw who joins us as class teacher in Year 4. Mrs McRae is our new school Learning Mentor and
Miss Arrowsmith, Miss Pattison and Miss Robinson are new members of the support staff team.
Over the holiday the main school entrance has been decorated and a new door put in, to ensure that all of our children are kept safe. We have also had a big tidy up and have many more plans to develop the learning environment inside and outside of school.
This half term we will be asking the children how we can improve school further. We also welcome your thoughts and would like to invite you to our Parent Forum Meetings on Thursday,14th September at 2.30pm and 5.00pm. It will also be an opportunity for you to find out more about our school vision and to meet me!
We have an open door policy and welcome you as parents into school. Usually quick messages can be given in the morning (all staff will be out in the playground before school starts to welcome children) and at the end of the day, but if you require a longer time then please make an appointment. There will also always be a member of the SLT (Senior Leadership Team) outside in the mornings as well as
Mrs McRae our Learning Mentor, should you have further questions. Please be reminded that no parent should enter the school other than through the reception door where you will be provided with a visitor’s badge. No adult should be inside school premises without being signed in.
On Wednesday, 20th September we will be holding an informal open evening from 3.30pm until 4.45pm where you will have the opportunity to meet the class teacher and look at the wonderful learning that has taken place so far this year. Parent Meetings will take place in November where you will be able to make an appointment to meet with teachers to discuss how your child is settling into school as well as ways to help them with their learning at home.
As you are aware, holidays taken in term time cannot be authorised except in extreme special circumstances. A request form for any time off must be completed and returned to the school office.
Please inform us if there are any changes to your child’s medical conditions and your contact details. It is lovely to see how smart the children are looking at the beginning of the school year and would like to remind you that children must only wear trainers for sports activities. Future dates for the term will be sent out in the next newsletter which will go out every two weeks, as well as on the Parent App.
I look forward to meeting more of you over the next few weeks and thank you for your continuing support.
