Parent Newsletter 2 – Autumn Term 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a busy start to the year at Nevill Road Juniors. Year 3 visited the Infant school for a story telling session with Yuval Zommer, the author of ‘100 Sausages’. Year 4 enjoyed their first swimming lesson and Year 5 have been launching rockets. We even had a visit from Charles Darwin who worked with the Year 6 children to find out about how fossils are made. All the visitors to school have commented on the children’s beautiful behaviour and attitudes to learning.
School Council
We now have twenty two children in school who have been elected as School Councillors. Their first job is to gather ideas for the new mural in the school hall. Well done to all of the children who put themselves forward for the role.
Parent Forum
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend the Parent Forum. I have received many positive comments about the changes that have already been made. We will be holding another forum in February to share further improvements based on your suggestions.
Lunchtimes
Lunchtime provision has been reviewed to provide opportunities for children to be active and engaged. We now have two Sports Coaches who encourage children to join in with a variety of different activities. A quiet area has been set up for children to read books, colour or just have somewhere to relax. All of the staff have commented upon the positive impact this is having upon children’s behaviour and readiness for learning when they return to lessons.
Autumn Term Dates
Please find attached a copy of this term’s dates. Parent App is our main method of communication and we would recommend that you down load this on to your phones to ensure that you are aware of everything that is happening at the Nevill Road schools. If you are having difficulties with this, please speak to the office staff who will be happy to help set it up.
Reminders
In order to keep our children safe, please could bikes and scooters be wheeled into the playground. A reminder that the start of the school day in the Juniors is 8.50am and doors close at 9.00am. Due to the Little Bears after school provision, we also ask that parents leave the main playground by 3.30pm as it will be used by the club from this time.

Thank you again for your continuing support.

Kind Regards
Judi Cliff, Headteacher, Nevill Road Junior School
